Our story
Underground Shepherd was born in a quiet turning point — the moment Jerry Bryant stepped away from the noise, pressure, and performance of big-church ministry and returned to the simple, tender calling God placed in him from the beginning.
After decades of pastoring a thriving congregation in Nashville, Jerry began to see what many never admit: activity can replace intimacy, numbers can overshadow people, and religious systems can unintentionally wound the very souls they hope to heal. He watched trauma, fear, and discouragement settle into lives that needed gentleness, not pressure.
So Jerry did something rare.
He stepped off the platform.
He moved into living rooms, small circles, and long conversations. He traded performance for presence. He traded growth metrics for grace. And in that quiet place, he heard the Lord speak:
“Go underground.”
Not hidden.
Not secret.
Just free.
Free from the expectations of institutional ministry, free to shepherd one person at a time, free to see people the way Jesus sees them.
Underground Shepherd is the result of that calling.
Our mission
We exist to bring encouragement, healing, and spiritual direction.

We serve:
- People carrying trauma
- Young men and women who grew up fatherless
- Pastors and leaders who have been wounded
- Individuals who feel underwater and need to breathe again
- Anyone who needs to hear, “You’re going to make it.”

We Discern Assignments
Not every call is ours.
Some need licensed counselors.
Some need pastors.
Some need a friend.
We follow the Spirit, not the pressure.
We Release Without Control
When someone has received all Jerry can give, he releases them to the next level — without guilt, without ownership, without manipulation.
We Stay Free
Underground Shepherd is a nonprofit ministry that allows Jerry to travel, teach, host conferences, and support global missions without financial entanglement.
